Knowing as much as possible about the Thoroughbred and what it takes to produce a classic champion has been a passion of Calvin L. Carter who began his research and study of horses in the 1990s. And that led to his creation of the Classic Champion Thoroughbred Profile® which is an analytical tool Calvin uses to measure the classic potential of young Thoroughbreds.
In 2014, the Classic Champion Thoroughbred Profile® was developed into a software program by Calvin's brother, Dallas, and it assigns each horse a numerical score which is the indicator of that horse’s potential. The higher the score, the more potential that horse has to become a quality stakes horse or classic champion.
For the first time in the 325‐year (approximate) history of the Thoroughbred, the empirical evidence gathered through the robust analytical power of the Classic Champion Thoroughbred Profile® software shows that the pedigree is the only true standard and indicator of a horse's performance, especially of their classic potential.
The software which was debuted in Calvin's Kentucky Derby 141 blog (http://bit.ly/1Jl8aIq) picked five of the top six finishers and eliminated seventy percent (70%) of the Derby field from wagering consideration. The Preakness results were even better and you can read about those results here: http://bit.ly/1eaRA4a. However, the Belmont results were best as the software correctly identified American Pharoah, Frosted, Keen Ice and Mubtaahij as the top four finishers in that race. You can read about that here: http://bit.ly/1dqpOAf.
In addition to being an exceptional predictor of classic races like the Kentucky Derby, Preakness and Belmont Stakes, the Classic Champion Thoroughbred Profile® software is also a valuable tool for horse owners and breeders helping them to take the guesswork out of purchasing and breeding their horses.
The profile score numerically shows horse owners how a mare can upgrade or downgrade the stallion she is mated with through the numerical score of the resultant foal. The higher the score the better as the foal will have the potential to be a quality stakes horse or, perhaps, a classic champion.
The profile also shows horse owners how their entire bloodstock can be upgraded by using the profile score to help them make the best breeding decisions resulting in less overbreeding and fewer potential equine welfare issues.
Like an intricate puzzle, the pedigree contains many secrets of what champions are made of and everything one needs to know about the horse, from the physical conformational characteristics to the emotional and behavioral traits, can be found in the pedigree if one knows the families, Ancestral Herd that formed the foal.
The profile does not take into account other factors that could determine the outcome of a race such as the horse's will to win or that sometimes horses fail to live up to their potential. However, with further development, a horse's emotional behavior and physical fitness will be a part of the software's analytical equation determining the Classic Champion Thoroughbred Profile®.
